I've been home sick for the last few days with bad cold. This happens to me (and lots of other people) just about every year, so I have a routine to deal with it that involves chicken soup, grapefruit juice, and daytime tv. That probably sounds familiar to anyone reading this. When I start to get a little better and run out of Law and Order reruns I want to read, but I often don't have the concentration to continue my current book (in this case a 600 page tome about the 14th century). So, I turn to my childhood favorites. For the last few days I've been rereading the "Little House" books, but I also enjoy Roald Dahl, The Little Princess, and whatever else my upstairs library offers.
Do you have sick time habits that you'd like to share? What children's books do you return to over and over?

I hope you feel better soon. I get a bad cold about once a year too. I usually watch movies. 80s movies are my favorites! Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, St. Elmo's Fire, oooh the Star War Trilogy (I prefer episodes 3-5 the best, classic). I like watching a series... the last time I was sick I watched Harry Potter 1-4. When I ran out of TiVo'd shows and was no longer interested in my own movies - Netflix instant play became my friend!
Old childhood books I return to: Anne of Green Gables, The Secret Garden, The Outsiders...
I watch movies too and USED to watch The price is right before Bob Barker left. Now its the Price is Wrong.
But for books I read Anne of Green Gables (all of them), Jane of Latern Hill (also by Montgomery), Harry Potters, and Austen books when sick.
Someday Angeline is my favorite book. I must read it twice a year.
I re-read the Harry Potter series pretty regularly, and the His Dark Materials series more often because it's less of a time committment (3 books versus 7!).
Right now I have what I can only call a craving to re-read Ella Enchanted, but I swear I've owned two copies of that book and I need to find a third because it is missing again.
Others:
The Phantom Tollbooth
Maniac Magee
There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom
There are really a bunch more; I read a LOT of kids books.
His Dark Materials and Wrinkle in Time are the biggies plus a couple of really embarrassing juvenile science fiction books. Usually when I'm sick I watch t.v. though. Law and Order reruns are definitely a favorite and Sopranos too.
I am having a hard time with the new expanded young adult section in the bookstore. It is making me want to give up adult reading.
I read "The Golden Compass" but never read the other two books in the His Dark Materials series. It sounds like they're popular!
This post/comments are interesting - getting some books to add to my reading list! I am a sucker for young adult books. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series is really really good.
Recently I read Uglies, Pretties, Specials. A little dystopian young adult book with a pretty interesting premise that teens were given plastic surgery at 16 to make them all appear "perfect" by Scott Westerfield.
When I used to be sick and had a VCR I would also re-watch old movies. Especially when I was younger, I watched Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea over and over. And also one of the original attempts at making a Little Women movie. So I totally understand the comfort drawing you in..
Oh, that reminds me: the first three Anne of Green Gables books! I've re-read those a LOT.
